Important UK Student Visa 2025 Update: What International Students Must Know

UK Student Visa 2025 is going digital

Are you planning to study in the UK? Here’s a critical update that every international student must know.

UK Student Visa 2025 brings a major change for international students planning to study in the UK. From 15th July 2025, the UK Government is replacing the traditional 90-day vignette sticker with a fully digital eVisa system. If you’ve recently applied for a student visa or plan to, this update directly affects your travel process, visa access, and university reporting.

What’s Changing?

Previously, students received a physical vignette sticker in their passport, valid for 90 days,
allowing entry into the UK before collecting a BRP (Biometric Residence Permit). But from
15th July 2025, the vignette sticker will be replaced with a Digital eVisa, accessible via your
UKVI (UK Visas & Immigration) account.

This digital transformation is designed to:

  • Simplify the travel and entry process
  • Enhance security
  • Reduce the dependency on physical documentation

What You Need To Do:

To ensure a smooth transition and hassle-free entry into the UK, all student visa holders
must follow these steps:

Check your Visa Decision Letter

Follow the instructions to create your UKVI account as soon as you receive your visa
approval.

Access your Digital eVisa

Log in to your UKVI account and verify all details carefully. Any error should be reported
immediately.

Link your Passport to your eVisa

Your passport must be correctly linked to the digital visa before your travel.

Generate a Share Code

This code allows you to share your immigration status with your university, employer, or
landlord. Generate it using your date of birth on the UKVI portal.

What About Dependents and Children?

The new rule does not apply to dependents and children.

They will still receive both:

  • A physical vignette sticker
  • A Digital eVisa

This ensures they continue to have access to physical proof of their immigration status
during travel.

Why This Update Matters

This update is part of the UK’s broader plan to modernize and digitize immigration services.

As a student, you’ll benefit from:

  • Quicker processing
  • Easy access to your visa status online
  • Less risk of losing your visa documents

However, the new system also means you must be more proactive in managing your UKVI
account and ensuring all details are correctly updated before travel.
